The Society has been an advocate, voice and resource for Canada’s graphic design profession since 1956. The GDC maintains a national certified body of graphic designers and promotes high standards of graphic design and ethical business practices, for the benefit of Canadian industry, commerce, public service and education.

To gain certification, I had to pass a portfolio review and sign a professional code of ethics and business practice.

I grew up around printing presses and paper so it’s sort of in my blood. I received my degree in education and after a stint teaching visual art and then software applications, I began freelancing as a designer at the turn of the century. Following a number of years working in the marketing department of Municipal Software in Victoria BC, the last year of which as Creative Director and Marketing Team Lead, I held a number of in-house design positions. I worked for Royal Roads University, Hot House Marketing and the BC Provincial Government.

On April 1, 2007, I opened Oculus Design + Marketing and continue to work with his existing clients and former employers. I maintain relationships with other professionals such as writers, photographers, public relations specialists and developers. This allows me to bring together a ‘superteam’ of professionals for any project. I can pick the best people for a project without the overhead of having them on staff every day. In this way, I can compete on quality with the agencies without the bureaucracy (or higher rates).
